Kaitiakitanga

'TUTIRA' is a mana enhancing framework in the therapeutic alliance between the kaitiaki (supervisor), and the tiaki (the supervisee), within the kaitiakitanga space (professional Bicultural supervision space).

'TU' means to stand and 'tira' means collective, enhancing the meaning from the whakatauki;

E hara taku toa takitahi, he toa takitini,

Principles of engagement

Tu-whanaungatanga

To stand with the intent to establish, maintain and grow respectful relationships through attentive engagement and connecting.

Tu-manamotuhake

A reciprocal and respectful responding, holding each other in the highest regard. For when you stand in respect and honour your own mana, when you know who you are, only then will you know how to bring forth the potential light of others.

Tu-ako

To stand as a mentor, counsellor, teacher, educator, supporter and facilitator, positioned in the 'tuakana-teina' relationship, located in a learner-centred environment, extedning to whanau, hapu and iwi.

Tu-mauri ora

To stand in the awareness and understanding of mauri being an essential component of Māori cultural identity and language, ascribed in the vitality, integrity and unique energy existing in every person - and ora, symbolic of holistic wellbeing.
